U.S. and Russia signed treaty to ban Bomb tests in 1963
The Atomic Age, an age of fierce power, power so small, but so strong that entire cities were vaporized under it’s might. It was an age of fear, science and secrets that left an everlasting impression on the world today.
The world first saw the awesome force of atomic power when Little Boy and Fat Man, the first atomic bombs, fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Soon after, Russia began testing of similar bombs and the race for atomic power was on. This panicked race for atomic power led to many accusations, some true and some false, including the ever famous case of the Rosenbergs.
Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were a married couple that was accused by McCarthy for stealing and selling information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. On June 19, 1953 both Rosenbergs were electrocuted. The Rosenbergs was the first execution for espionage in the United States. The execution of the Rosenbergs stirred up many fear of not only communism, but McCarthyism as well.
