Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist, and in charge of the NAACP in Montgomery, Alabama. She was not a typical person but it was December 1, 1955 that really set her apart from everyone else. The rule at the time was that on buses, blacks had to give up their seat for a white person. Rosa, like many others were not fond of this rule. After a long work day, Rosa was tired and didn't want to give up her seat to a white man. When bus driver told her to move to the back of the bus, she refused. She didn't budge, even when the driver threatened to call the police.
Rosa when straight to jail. She had to go on trial for breaking Jim Crow laws. The NAACP decided to use her case to fight segregation. A boycott of buses was perfect, and it lasted for months. Nonviolence won! The Supreme Court ruled that segregation on Alabama buses was unconstitutional.

Martin Luther King Jr. was your average man, besides the fact of his amazing work ethic towards getting bigger and better rights for his people. Since long before any of our times, blacks, along with Native Americans and immigrants, have had not even half the rights of white people. Dr. King was an American clergyman, activist, and leader of the African-American civil rights movement. Dr. King was also chosen to lead the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott. He also helped find the Southern Christian. Eventually all of King’s hard work led up to the I Have A Dream Speech (March on Washington) in 1963. In that speech Dr. King raised consciousness of the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King received the Nobel Peace Prize for his effort to end racial segregation and discrimination. Dr. King was inspired by Gandhi, Howard Thurman, and Bayard Rustin.
While people were acting up in the United States, others were in other parts of the world too. For instance, Mahatma Ghandi was an Indian man who believed with all of his heart in the freedom of India from the British rule. He was going to go to all extents to get this completed. However, Ghandi was not a violent man and he believed no one else should be violent either. He tried to get all of his fellow indians to follow him down a non-violent path that would eventually lead them to freedom. Ghandi never once struck nor killed a person to get what he wanted. Ghandi had other ways of rebelling such as sit ins, and hunger strikes. Once Ghandi became very famous and popular, he used his popularity to his advantage. When he really wanted something, he did not eat. He claimed he did not want to live to watch India be violent. Becausepeople did not want such a famous and well liked person like Ghandi to die, they did what he wished and stopped using violence in order to save their leaders life.
