Baseball:
In the 1950's, baseball was segregated. There were the Major Leagues, Minor Leagues, and the Negro Leagues. In baseball, separate but equal was not true. Black players had to rent out baseball fields when they could get them, and had horrible transportation and housing when they were touring. Most black ball players were better than whites, but that didn't stop the segregation of the leagues. Jackie Robinson was a black, he was an amazing baseball player, he was also the first black baseball player to play in the majors. Branch Ricky, the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, signed him into the major leagues to start integration. Lots of fans and players didn't like Jackie Robinson because he was black, but in one game all that changed and Jackie was finally accepted.
This particular genera of music was started when some black musicians started playing a mix of rhythm-and-blues, jazz, and other kinds of music. The rock n roll records became an instant hit with every race, but some thought that if they could find a white man who sang like a black man rock n roll would do even better. They found their man in Mr. Elvis Presley.
