I choose to write about this song because it tells of the problems that were going on with young people in the U.S. while the Vietnam war was going on. The song was written as a response to the Kent College shootings. This song shows that people during the time period wanted the war to end and were protesting. At colleges they sometimes sent in the national guard to clear things up. In Ohio the National Guard came but they fired into a crowd of the students killing four people. Hence the lyrics four dead in ohio. The song is meant to explain the event that occurred on May 4, 1970. People were enraged and they just fueled the fire helping it get more and more publicity.
