We didn't understand the Vietnam Conflict nor did we understand the geography and terrain there. If we could go back in time, one thing that I would do is not to fire all of our China Experts. Even if we wanted to fire some, we shouldn't have fired all of them. Because we had fired them it left us with nothing to work with when we get into a war halfway across the world. This was a disadvantage to us because if we didn't fire all of our China experts we could have saved more money as well as lives that were lost during the Vietnam War.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"22340755","dateCreated":"1270159784","smartDate":"Apr 1, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"y2014wyajac","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/y2014wyajac","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/coldwar-coreyd0910.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/22340755"},"dateDigested":1532253665,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Vietnam War, Wyatt","description":"The United States entered the war without quite knowing what they were getting into. First of all, the US government didn't want to seem light on communism, so when Ho Chi Minh was in control over North Vietnam, the US jumped too quickly. The domino theory scared everyone into thinking that if not stopped soon enough, Asia would soon be completely communist. Second of all, we were helping France to regain control of their lost colonies. We knew that colonialism was wrong. But fighting communism was more important to us at the time. Third of all, we were fighting against a people in the midst of a revolution. When people are fighting for something they truly believe in, they are apt to be unbeatable. In the textbook it talks about what would've happened if Hitler were stopped sooner. Maybe if we hadn't gotten involved in Vietnam communism would have spread and we would not be where we are today.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"22340671","dateCreated":"1270159457","smartDate":"Apr 1, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"y2014jakgri","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/y2014jakgri","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1228944381\/y2014jakgri-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/coldwar-coreyd0910.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/22340671"},"dateDigested":1532253665,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Vietnam War Reflection","description":"One major mistake that the United States made was that we entered the war. We didn't understand that the Vietnam Conflict was actually a Civil War until after we had joined and gotten in way over our heads. It was a major mistake. What we should have done was let the war run its course and then contained the communism if the North had run. Another mistake we made was that we fired our Chinese experts who would have told us more about the area and what we would be getting into. Because we fired these experts we gave money to corrupt southern leaders who did nothing to help us. If we had not entered the war, not fired are Chinese experts, and not given the money to the corrupt leaders, we would have ended up much better off.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"22301493","dateCreated":"1270081900","smartDate":"Mar 31, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"y2014aripot","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/y2014aripot","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/coldwar-coreyd0910.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/22301493"},"dateDigested":1532253665,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Vietnam War, Arie","description":"One major mistake that the United States made was entering the war in the first place. Vietnam was trying to free itself from France and that was an issue between those two countries. The United States feared that if Vietnam was to become and independent country, that it would soon be a communist nation. The United States certainly did not want communism to spread or the Domino Theory, to become reality. The United States felt that it was their duty for France to maintain control over Vietnam and that this was a war against communism, as opposed to being mostly about freedom. Another part of this mistake was that when the United States entered the war, they thought they were going to beat Vietnam very easily. Since this nation was so tiny, it must be almost powerless right? They were very wrong. Vietnam fought very hard and they were never relentless. The United States were shocked but in the end, Vietnam wanted it more. Vietnam not only was trying to gain its independence from France, they were determined to succeed. The United States was not prepared to fight this war.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"22300383","dateCreated":"1270080308","smartDate":"Mar 31, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"y2014emmcor","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/y2014emmcor","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1268748030\/y2014emmcor-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/coldwar-coreyd0910.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/22300383"},"dateDigested":1532253665,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Vietnam","description":" A policy I found that would have been useful is a limit on a budget. U.S. entered the war to stop the spread of communism. We should have waited for the Vietnam Civil War to end and see who won. In other words, you've got to know your enemy. This way, you know what your fighting for. If this was a policy then the U.S wouldn't make so many mistakes, such as getting into the Vietnam War. Because America didn't know much about Vietnam, we helped France gain control over it because it was a communist country. Ironically, we were fighting for imperialism. When France lost, Vietnam split into communist North and pro-Western Southern which had bad leaders. And, the U.S got into the war and started helping the bad South because we thought that the Chinese communists would control Vietnam. Too bad we didn't have any knowledge about our enemy. First of all we supported Imperialism. We showed during WWII that we were a force that imposed imperialism, we fought the central powers like Germany who were taking over other European countries. But in the case of the Vietnam war we chose differently. Before the war the people of Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh successfully drove out France and then Japan. But France wanted their old empire back and so they once again attacked Vietnam. Well Ho Chi Minh was now the leader of North Vietnam and he was into communism. At this point in time the U.S. was still afraid that communism would take over; so instead of fighting against the imperialistic country we joined France in their fight to regain Vietnam. Many americans felt that if Vietnam were to fall to communism a whole slew of other countries would follow, kind of like a domino effect. This thought caused people to further support the war.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
